Are Clearly Filtered Products Certified?Updated 18 days ago

At Clearly Filtered, we take our water filtration standards very seriously. We want to clarify a common misconception: NSF International is not the only international organization that can certify products to NSF/ANSI standards.

What Does That Mean?

Here’s a breakdown of how the process works:

  1.  The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the organization that accredits entities to  certify products according to ANSI-approved standards. You can read more on their process here.
  2. NSF International is a non-profit corporation and one of several ANSI-accredited certification bodies. NSF International typically authors standards that are then submitted to ANSI for approval as American National Standards. Once approved, they are known as NSF/ANSI standards.
  3. While NSF International is well-known, it is important to understand that it is not the accrediting body itself. ANSI accredits organizations like NSF International, the Water Quality Association (WQA), and IAPMO Research and Testing, Inc., all of which are authorized to certify products against NSF/ANSI standards.

Our Certification Status

Our Clearly Filtered pitcher filter is currently certified by the Water Quality Association to meet the following standards:

  • NSF/ANSI 42: Aesthetic Effects (e.g., taste, odor, chlorine)
  • NSF/ANSI 53: Health Effects (e.g., lead, VOCs, and other harmful contaminants)
  • NSF/ANSI/CAN 372: Lead-Free ComplianceYou can view our product’s listing in WQA’s certification database here.
Why Not NSF International (Yet)?

We understand that many customers are more familiar with NSF International and may assume that their name is synonymous with product certification. To help avoid confusion—and ensure full transparency—we are actively exploring additional certification through NSF International for the same standards and testing protocols already used by the WQA. Our top priority is ensuring you can trust the performance and safety of our products, regardless of which ANSI-accredited organization conducts the certification.
